UnionPay International announced today that it has joined hands with nearly 10,000 Macao merchants to provide exclusive offers to UnionPay cardholders, including up to MOP 500 off for each purchase in store and MOP 20 off for the first purchase of no less than MOP 30 via Huawei Pay. Besides, UnionPay International is teaming up with Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) to push offerings to tourists, so as to help merchants attract foot traffic and tourists enjoy discounts in an effort to further drive the recovery of the tourism market in Macao.

According to the latest announcement from China’s National Immigration Administration, visa processing for mainland residents who wish to visit Macao will resume region by region, and independent travel between Macao and Mainland China will gradually reopen. UnionPay International, together with a large number of Macao merchants, provides a variety of exclusive offers in the forms of cash-back, instant mark-down, u·plan coupons, and gifts. Local consumers and tourists in Macao are able to enjoy these privileges by paying with UnionPay card, the UnionPay app or by mobile QuickPass. A wide array of shopping malls, supermarkets, restaurants, gift shops, cosmeceuticals, and timepieces shops participate in the promotion, including renowned brands such as New Yaohan, Sanmiu Supermarket, and Lei’s Cuisine.

In order to help UnionPay cardholders visiting Macao be well informed and enjoy all offers available, UnionPay International is working with MGTO to release travel guides and UnionPay offer updates through two official government platforms, “Macao Ready Go” and “Macao Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme”. Meanwhile, such offers are delivered to targeted Macao-bound tourists through Guangdong EMS, Meituan Dianping and other channels.

UnionPay has enabled full card acceptance in Macao, and there are nearly 20,000 merchants supporting UnionPay mobile payment services. Recently, several new features such as “Macao Health QR Code” and online appointment for COVID-19 testing are added to the UnionPay app, helping tourists to pass customs conveniently.

Macao tourists visiting Mainland China can also enjoy a quality payment experience. At present, nearly 2 million UnionPay cards have been issued in Macao. The cards, together with the Hong Kong/Macao version of the UnionPay app and UnionPay-powered Huawei Pay are all available for payments in cross-border contexts. Macao cardholders now can enjoy an exclusive “Spend CNY 200, Get CNY 50 off” discount at over 200 merchants in Mainland China. Most of the participating merchants are located in the neighboring Guangdong Province and F&B brands are heavily featured.
