UnionPay International introduced on Monday a QR-based cash withdrawal service in Macau, with Banco Nacional Ultramarino (BNU) the first local bank to offer the new service.
According to a statement from the bank, BNU customers can now conveniently withdraw cash using the bank’s mobile app at ATMs that support UnionPay’s QR-based cash withdrawal service, not only in Macau but also in mainland China and Hong Kong.
To use this service, BNU customers need to verify their identity on the BNU App and enter cash withdrawal instructions.
At the ATM, they select the “‘UnionPay QR code withdrawal’ option, scan the QR code displayed on the screen, and enter the prompted password on the BNU App to complete the transaction.
BNU cash machine equipped with this service will also extend the convenience of cash withdrawal to users of other banking mobile apps that activate this function in the future.
This QR code-based cash withdrawal service offers a simple and secure alternative to using physical cards. By using the mobile app, users can verify their identity, enhancing transaction security and minimizing the risk of card information being compromised. Additionally, all cash withdrawals require a password, further bolstering the security and reliability of the process.
It was said that the new service would eliminate the need for customers to carry multiple cards and provide a more streamlined experience.
UnionPay’s debit cards issued by BNU can be used not only for cash withdrawals but also for purchases.
These cards are accepted in 180 countries and regions worldwide at over 56 million merchants, and cash withdrawals can be made from nearly 2.9 million ATMs.
Furthermore, BNU UnionPay debit cards support various mobile payment solutions, including UnionPay App, BNU Pay, Huawei Pay, and Apple Pay. UnionPay is also the first international card brand in Hong Kong and Macau to offer mobile payment services for debit cardholders.
