  • Ghana – Country of Cocoa

    Located in the west of Africa and known as the “Village of Cocoa”, Ghana has its capital in Accra. It is said that, in each six chocolates, one has its raw materials coming from Ghana. Travel to Ghana is interesting for nature lovers. Sunny days and fertile soils in Ghana has cultivated animate animals, from elephants, monkeys, sea turtles, crocodiles to hundreds of birds and butterflies with bright color. Why not take your UnionPay cards (card number starting with 62) to taste cocoa and embrace nature in Ghana.

  • POS acceptance

    All Merchants of Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) and Stanbic Bank accept UnionPay cards. Since that some of the merchants have yet to put up the UnionPay signage, cardholders may show their UnionPay cards upon the till and inquire about UnionPay acceptance.
     
    Dual brand cards are not accepted as UnionPay cards in Ghana, please use UnionPay single-branded card (card number starting with 62) to enjoy various UnionPay offers.

  • Cash withdrawal

    In Ghana, UnionPay cards can be accepted for withdrawing Ghanaian Cedi and balance inqury at ATMs of GTBank, Fidelity Bank, Clydestone Ezi Cash, Zenith Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Universal Merchant Bank (UMB).

    The ATMs of GTBank offer the Chinese interface and the other ATMs offer the English interface.

    Please refer to the latest government policy on overseas cash withdrawal via UnionPay cards at "Help Center-Card-using Instructions-Refined Card-using Tips". Daily cash withdrawal limit from respective issuers and/or ATM may apply. Please consult your issuer on the possible cap on the amount. You may split your withdrawals into several times which comply with the limit(s).

  • Charges

    ATM commission fee consists of two parts:
    (1)Service fee charged by the issuer: please consult the issuer for details.
    (2)Service fee charged by the ATM acquirer in Ghana: some ATMs will charge commission fee, which is charged by the local banks in Ghana and which has nothing to do with UnionPay or the issuer.

    Cash withdrawal via debit card results in a lower commission fee.

  • Tips

    Select PINs that cannot be easily guessed by anyone.
    Never disclose your PIN to anyone who claims to represent the bank or the police.
    Be alert to your surroundings before conducting any banking transactions.
    Keep a close eye on your credit card during transaction to avoid any illegal activities.
    If your UnionPay card has been stolen/lost, please inform the issuer immediately.
