    In South Korea, UnionPay credit cards are accepted at almost all merchants accepting signature-based payment and more than 3,000,000 merchants accepting PIN-based payment. Nearly 70,000 local ATMs accept UnionPay cards for cash withdrawal.

  • About ZeroPay

    ZeroPay is a mobile payment service launched by the Seoul Metropolitan Government in collaboration with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups as well as fintechs, banks and finance companies in South Korea. Local users can access ZeroPay service directly in apps powered by bankcard companies such as Hana Card and WOORI Card. So far, a total of 20 local banks and 29 innovative payment firms have joined ZeroPay.

    All merchants with the “ZeroPay” sign in South Korea accept merchant-presented QR payments in the UnionPay App. The “ZeroPay” logo can be seen in the middle of the QR code, as well as at the bottom of the QR code table card, next to the “ZeroPay Acceptance” signage. ZeroPay has around 950,000 merchants that have enabled merchant-presented QR payments in the country, mostly small and medium-sized. So far, all of these ZeroPay merchants have enabled the UnionPay QR code. The most prominent ones include Subway, Paik’s Coffee, TOUS les JOURS, Isaac Toast, EDIYA COFFEE and Mega Coffee. At these merchants, users can pay with the UnionPay App by scanning the QR code at the stores with “ZeroPay” signage.

  • ZeroPay Instruction

    1. Once spotting a QR code with the “ZeroPay” signage, users can open the UnionPay App and click “Scan” to scan the code provided by the merchant.
    2. When the scanning is successful, users can check the merchant information in the payment interface. If it is correct, they can put in the purchase amount to complete the transaction.
    3. When the transaction is completed, users can go to “Me” – “Bills” to check the order status and information.

  • Enjoy South Korea with UnionPay services and privileges

    In South Korea, you can pay with UnionPay credit cards via signature at almost all merchants, and pay with UnionPay debit cards via PIN at over 3 million merchants. You can also withdraw cash in KRW at over 70,000 ATMs there.

  • POS acceptance

    Merchants with the signage of  all accept UnionPay cards,including famous department stores, supermarkets, convenient stores and cosmetics stores like Shilla Duty Free Shop, Hyundai Department Store, Asiana Airlines Duty Free Shop, Watsons and other well-known business district department stores, supermarkets, convenience stores and cosmetics stores; local specialty hotels to five-star hotels including Park Hyatt Seoul; almost all Korean Taxi (accept UnionPay credit card and UnionPay QR code payment); popular entertainment venues such as many restaurants in Gimhae Airport and Incheon Airport, etc.

     

    Since that some of the merchants have yet to put up the UnionPay signage, cardholders may show their UnionPay cards upon the till and inquire about UnionPay acceptance.

    When using co-branded cards, you are advised to choose UnionPay as the routing option to be benefited from the special offers and services provided by UnionPay.


    Note:Some UnionPay card acceptors or acquirers route co-branded cards  to corresponding card shcem according to the card BIN, which means co-branded cards transactions aren't routed to UnionPay without selection by cardholders and merchant cashiers. Please refer to the transaction results for the information about transaction routing.

    Paying with UnionPay credit card at some local merchants requires no PIN. Cardholders can complete the payment following the instruction of the cashier.   • Cash withdrawal

    In South Korea, UnionPay cards are accepted at nearly 68,000 ATMs for withdrawing Korean Won. There are the signage of  on these ATMs or the ATM screen, and all provide the interface in Chinese. 


    Please refer to the latest government policy on overseas cash withdrawal via UnionPay cards at "Help Center-Card-using Instructions-Refined Card-using Tips". Daily cash withdrawal limit from respective issuers and/or ATM may apply. Please consult your issuer on the possible cap on the amount. You may split your withdrawals into several times which comply with the limit(s).

  • Charges

    ATM commission fee consists of two separate fees: 
    (1) Service fee charged by the issuer: please consult your issuer for details.
    (2) Service fee charged by the ATM acquirer in Korea: some ATMs will charge commission fee, which is charged by the local banks in Korea and which has nothing to do with UnionPay or the issuer.

    Cash withdrawal via debit card results in a lower commission fee.

  • Tips

    Select PINs that cannot be easily guessed by anyone.
    Never disclose your PIN to anyone who claims to represent the bank or the police.
    Be alert to your surroundings before conducting any banking transactions.
    Keep a close eye on your credit card during transaction to avoid any illegal activities.
    If your UnionPay card has been stolen/lost, please inform the issuer immediately.

  • Introduction of Overseas Tax Refund

        UnionPay has launched the UnionPay card (card number starting with 62) overseas tax refund service in cooperation with Global Blue 、Premier Tax Free 、Tax Free Worldwide and GB Tax Free that are the world’s largest tax refund institutions. Such service covers 38 countries and regions. Furthermore, in addition to Global Blue, UnionPay has cooperated with local tax refund institutions in South Korea such as KTIS, Global Tax Free and Easy Tax Refund, all of which may refund taxes directly to UnionPay card accounts. You can apply for tax refunds when shopping in oversea stores only if they are labeled the following logos of tax refund cooperative institutions.

    UnionPay Card Emergency Cash Assistance Service UnionPay cardholders can call the hotline of the issuing 
    bank or local UnionPay hotline to apply for an emergency cash assistance capped at the equivalent of USD 5,000 if they are experiencing emergencies like lost or malfunctioning cards.
