In Brazil, UnionPay cards are accepted in key commercial zones and by merchants in major tourist destinations such as Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Iguaçu, Manaus and Salvador, as well as by ATMs of Banco Itaú and the Saque e Pague network.

POS acceptance

In Brazil, all merchants with the UnionPay signage or installed with Rede and Stone POS terminals can take UnionPay cards, which cover the major jewelry chains, souvenir stores, restaurants with local specialties such as Brazilian barbecue, largest hotel chains and other merchants frequented by Chinese visitors to Brazil.

Paying with UnionPay credit card at some local merchants requires no PIN. Cardholders can complete the payment following the instruction of the cashier. Cash withdrawal

Currently, you can use your UnionPay card to withdraw cash and check balance on ATMs of Banco Itaú and the Saque e Pague network in Brazil.

Please refer to the latest government policy on overseas cash withdrawal via UnionPay cards at Help Center-Card-using Instructions-Refined Card-using Tips". Daily cash withdrawal limit from respective issuers and/or ATM may apply. Please consult your issuer on the possible cap on the amount. You may split your withdrawals into several times which comply with the limit(s).
Charges

The service fee for cash withdrawals in Brazil consists of two parts:
(1) Issuer's fee; please consult your card issuer for the specific rate.
(2) Brazilian ATM acquirer’s fee : some ATMs will charge a withdrawal fee which is collected by the banks in Brazil and is independent of UnionPay or the card issuer.

You are recommended to use your debit card to withdraw cash, as the service fee rate is lower.
Tips

In order to ensure payment security, please have your UnionPay chip card, whose card number begins with 62, inserted in the POS terminal whenever possible as you make purchases. Do not make your PIN too simple and do not disclose it to anyone, including bank staff. When entering your PIN in public spaces, take measures to ensure the privacy of your operation. When making purchases with your card, always keep it in your sight and confirm the amount of the purchase when completing the transaction.

If your card is stolen or lost, please call your card issuer immediately to report the loss, so as to ensure the safety of the funds in your account.
